Probiotics and Prebiotics
Probiotics and Prebiotics can restore the balance of bacteria in the digestive tract. Probiotics contain beneficial bacteria that can be found naturally in various foods. When probiotics are consumed, these healthy bacteria will migrate to the intestinal tract. Common strains include Lactobacillis and Bifidobacterium families of bacteria. Prebiotics are non-digestible foods that make their way through the digestive system and help good bacteria grow and flourish. Prebiotics keep beneficial bacteria healthy. Prebiotics that feed the beneficial bacteria in the gut mostly come from carbohydrate fibres called oligosaccharides. These are not digested, so the oligosaccharides remain in the digestive tract and stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria. Sources of oligosaccharides include fruits, legumes, and whole grains. Fructo-oligosaccharides may be taken as a supplement or added to foods. Yogurt made with bifidobacteria contain oligosaccharides. Probiotic bacteria like lactobacilli are naturally found in fermented foods like sauerkraut and yogurt. Some foods will have added probiotics as healthy nutritional ingredients, which will be evident on the label.

Shrimp and Prawn treats

KiyoMizu Koi Foods
KIYOMIZU Junior, Adult and Jumbo formulae.
JUNIOR - 4.5 mm for Koi up to 35 cm, ADULT - 6 mm for Koi from 35-60 cm, JUMBO - 8 mm for Koi from 60 cm.
KiyoMizu is the first food to be developed specifically to target Koi of different ages, from Young Koi, through to Adult Koi and on to older and possibly Jumbo Koi because it can be proven that different stages in life require a different balance of protiens, vitamins and mineral content.
Young Koi need a good start in life if they are to grow into magnificent Jumbo Koi. They need easily digestible proteins to grow. They also need vitamins and minerals to develop a good body and bone structure. Balanced, health-supporting and immunity-boosting ingredients are also required. Kiyomizu Junior provides exactly what young Koi need.
Adult Koi grow more slowly and start to develop their body shape and colour. It is therefore essential to change their feed, making sure they are given the ingredients they need for this stage of life. Kiyomizu Adult contains prebiotics and probiotics to strengthen the health and vitality of Koi.
The size of Kiyomizu pellets is designed to suit the ‘target audience’. If the pond contains Koi of different sizes, we recommend starting with the largest pellets and waiting until the bigger Koi have started feeding before introducing the smaller pellets.

Jumbo Koi need to maintain and improve their body shape and colour. In addition, they can live to an old age and therefore have to remain healthy. Giving them large amounts of protein does not make them grow more quickly. In fact, it has the exact opposite effect. Jumbo Koi need smaller amounts of very easily digestible proteins of the highest quality. Combined with optimum support for their health and colour, it is possible that they reach their maximum genetically determined length and old age.
The Koi hobby is in continuous development thanks to improved knowledge about feed, water quality and pond design. Over the past few decades, many types of Koi feed have been developed, including special food for growth & extra growth, colour, health & probiotics, winter (wheat germ) etc.
It is usual for lots of domestic animals such as puppies and kittens to be given special food. As animals grow into adults and later in life, when they grow older, their nutritional requirements change. Each stage of life requires a different kind of food to ensure good health and a vital old age. This is no different with Koi.

When the water temperature is less than 10ºC, Koi have a reduced appetite and slow digestion and should be fed accordingly.

The secret of Saki Hikari.
All of the Saki-Hikari diets include a beneficial living bacteria named the Hikari germ. This is a strain of Bacillus bacteria which proliferates in the Koi's intestine and brings many benefits. The result is extraordinary digestion, a consistent increased rate of growth, less pollution of the pond water and healthier Koi. The Hikari germ are a form of probiotics, the benefits of which are well documented in the human diet (e.g. Yoghurt and Yakult) as well as in livestock breeding and aquaculture.
The Hikari germ process.
The Hikari germ works in four stages. First when a diet containing the Hikari germ is fed, the bacteria breed in the intestine. Secondly the Hikari germ creates increased levels of digestive enzymes, which significantly improve the Koi's ability to digest the food, and thereby utilising more or the beneficial content of the food, and causing less solid waste. Thirdly, because the Hikari germ is probiotic, these friendly bacteria out compete any 'bad bacteria' present for a food source, and their population naturally decreases. Lastly, less waste produced in the digestive process means less pollution in the pond, and therefore better, more consistent water quality. Also the probiotic actions of the Hikari germ continue to be of benefit, even when expelled by the Koi and continue to help break down waste products and organic sludge in the pond.
The Four Formulae
Saki Hikari is available as a Balance diet, a Colour diet, a Growth diet and a Multi season diet. Now there are also several specialised formulae available, including Saki Hikari Balance type "R", Saki Hikari Pure white and Deep red - and All the diets contain the Hikari germ, wheat germ inner kernel, Spirulina and many important vitamins. Guaranteed analysis minimum 40% crude protein, between 6 and 9% crude fat, 1% crude fibre, 10% moisture and between 15 and 17% crude ash.

Automatic Koi Feeders
Automated fish feeders have been in use now for some time and have always proved useful where koi owners are on holiday or even just at work, then an Automatic Feeder is a must to ensure that your koi are fed little and often - i.e. the correct way, rather than feeding more heavily once or twice per day. This will substantially reduce waste produced by uneaten and poorly digested food. This in turn aids filter performance and helps keep water in a better condition. Evofeed Automatic fish feeder
EvoFeed Automatic is an automatic fish feeder which can be programmed to dispense food into the pond at timed intervals throughout the day. The distance the food is propelled, and the amount of time it is dispensed for, are also adjustable. Weatherproof, evoFeed Automatic can be mounted pond side, and is powered via its own built-in, rechargeable battery. EvoFeed Automatic is ideal for Koi ponds where Koi are fed frequently throughout the day. It is also ideal for holiday feeding.
