Water Pumps - which pump and what are the running costs?
|
Oase Aquamax Eco submersible
pumps. The Aquamax Eco range are more powerful, even more efficient and therefore even more frugal in terms of running costs than the Aquamax range they replace, now using a third less power. They feature adjustable inlet flow controls and are recommended for submersible use only. Now manufactured with a completely frost proof casing. Supplied with 10 metres cable and 3 year guarantee. (can be extended to 5 year) Without doubt THE best submersible pump range available today and very reliable when used as recommended. Ideal for main filter pumps and skimmers - only suitable for venturis or waterfalls in larger sizes. All models are now supplied complete with frost proof impellor housing so where applicable can be left in pond all winter. This pump range has been developed with low running costs in mind and are now even lower wattage than before - 8000 litres per hour for 80 watts. The 12,000 and 16,000 models feature seasonal flow control to allow adjustment of pump output for summer and winter use. The start models featured below have a simpler filter cage without the extra satellite inlet connection, slightly different impellor design, and slightly higher wattage, otherwise they are the virtually the same as the rest of the Aquamax Eco range.

Optimax Range. The Optimax range are without doubt the most efficient and frugal pumps on the market today and are fantastically cheap to run. With all new electronically controlled electric motors and clever impellor design, nothing comes even close in terms of providing efficiency in terms of moving water. 2,200 gallons per hour for 65 watts !! Staggering performance and with all the usual Oase benefits, 5 year warranty, very quiet and reliable. Supplied with 2" inlet and outlet, 10 metres of cable, stainless steel strainer and demountable base. Can be installed wet or dry. These pumps feature complete on-board diagnostic electronics which continually check when the pump is running, or first switched on, that there is, for example water covering the impellors, to avoid any possibility of damage to the pump. They are 'intelligent' and therefore protect themselves against unintentional damage. Optimax pumps are not suitable for water features such as fountains or waterfalls and will not power bead filters or trickle towers. They are fabulous water movers and should be installed using 2" pipe work and a minimum of bends and pipe work restrictions to maximise performance. |

Oase Aquamax Dry The all new Aquamax dry range have been specially introduced to cater for gravity fed filter installations that would normally be fitted with a dry pump. The pumps have almost the same frugal running costs as the Aquamax Eco range of pumps and will be very reliable. Oase have launched this range built on a purpose designed stand with no filter cage or other extras in order to reduce costs. Featuring Asynchronous motors for super quite and efficient operation, 1.5" female threaded inlet and outlet connections and supplied with connections for 1.25" pipe work as well, 10 metres cable and a standard 3 year guarantee which can be extended to 5 years. These are the ideal pump choice for most Koi pond filtration applications when we would expect to mount pumps externally, outside the filter and mount them dry. They can however, as with all Oase pumps, be submerged and fitted inside filter tanks if required. They are also suitable in the larger sizes (14,000 and 16,000) for bead filters , trickle towers and other water features.

Blue Eco DC Pumps. The brand new Blue Eco pumps are the most eco friendly electric pumps ever produced. They utilise brushless DC electric motor technology, and have an efficiency rating of 94% - this compares with normal electric motors with have an efficiency of 45 - 50%. The power and therefore energy consumption is fully adjustable from 10 - 100% of full power, so when reducing the R.P.M the energy consumption reduces accordingly. The pumps produce very little heat (as 94% of the energy used goes to turn the impellor ) which makes them ideal for dry applications and the control electronics are housed either internally or in satellite units. These pumps are ideal for all pond applications and for the first time, the water flow through your pond system is completely adjustable and under your control. So rather than buying a pump that is way too large for the application, because of the normal difficulty of calculating flow losses through pipe work, bends, UVs and head issues etc, the actual final flow can be measured and adjusted to obtain the correct flow, so no unnecessary power is used or wasted. For example, in bead filter applications, much more power is required on the backwash cycle than is required in normal running mode and for this reason, bead filters are normally specified with powerful (and very expensive to run) pumps - but using Blue Eco pumps means that the pump can be turned up to full power for backwash, and down again for normal operation so power consumption is absolutely minimised. Flow rates can be reduced in Winter, when there is less organic load on the pond, so turnover rates can be safely reduced, and then increased in Summer, when higher flow rates may be desirable. These pumps are also absolutely ideal for Trickle towers - or showers as well as swimming pools as they have massive flow available when required. We have installed an Blue Eco 240 model on a 4000 gallon pond and have it running at 1750 RPM, at which speed it is producing around 2000 gallons per hours and the measured power consumption is 77 watts. Similarly we have installed the Blue Eco 900 model, on a large waterfall application replacing a Speck Badu top 25, which used 1.7kw of power - yes that's 1700 watts! The Blue Devil produces a higher flow rate (if required) at 700 watt! Less than 50% of the power consumption. More importantly the customer found that the waterfall looked just as good with the pump turned down to 300 watts!!

Yamitsu UV systems Yamitsu UVs are probably the best selling UV systems in the world and have been in production since 1990. They are manufactured from UV stabilised materials and are rugged and reliable, They are now also one of the only UV systems available which are fully CE compliant for electrical safety, featuring for example, safety clamps holding the UV tube in place to prevent accidental removal. They are fully electronically controlled for reliability and long life - and importantly to ensure low running costs. Did you know that the average UV system using 'conventional' electro mechanical control gear consumes over four times as much electricity as an electronic model? So a conventional 30 watt UV can actually consume as much as 160 watts of power! They are easy to install with all models featuring glued hose tail connections for flexible pipe work, and 1.5" inlet/outlet ports ready to glue to solid pipe work connections too. They also come complete with mounting clamps. All models are easily serviced and control gear can be replaced if required. Still the most cost effective UV systems available. When calculating the size of UV required, start on the basis that 10watts is required for every 1000 gallons |

sterilisers These all new UV sterilisers use a completely different wavelength of UV light, i.e. 30,000 µ/sec/cm2 which effectively kills a wide range of organisms in pond water, especially Aeromonas and Pseudomonas bacteria and many types of virus. The units also feature special bulbs which have an effective life of over 1 year or 9000 hours and use very little electricity making them extraordinarily cost effective. Exclusive features of this range include a 316 Stainless Steel housing that allows for 360° rotation of the inlet and outlet unions for ease of installation, simple design of the lamp chamber that makes bulb changing a simple job that can be accomplished by even the least mechanically minded person in 2-3 minutes. Another key exclusive features not commonly found in similar units is the inclusion of unions at each end of the Stainless Steel housing, which allows for 360° rotation of both inlet and outlet ends for universal piping options as well as the total disassembly of the Stainless Steel housing to facilitate cleaning of the quartz tube, should it be necessary. Units can be installed indoors or outdoors, in a horizontal or vertical position, with mounting simplified by utilizing the Stainless Steel mounting legs supplied. The high output (HO) low pressure lamp is capable of 30,000 µ/sec/cm2 output when design flow rates are maintained. This is the same requirement as for drinking water, so you can be assured of the highest quality water standard. No other system in this price range has been so extensively safety and performance certified. Units are supplied with 2" demountable connectors for ease of maintenance.

Electronic weed busters These super all new weed busters are electronic devices that emit infinitely variable radio waves into the water via two wire antennae (supplied). The radio wave emissions disrupt carbonate and bicarbonate molecules and stop them precipitating on the surfaces of the pond. Blanket weed, which normally uses the carbonate precipitates to anchor itself and grow is therefore prevented from doing so and so dies back. These new devices work much better than the original technology which used set frequencies. Modern controllers such as these use technology which constantly changes the frequencies in use, so that the weed cannot adapt. The Weedbuster models are manufactured in two sizes and will handle up to 10,000 gallons. |
