The secret of Saki Hikari.

All of the Saki-Hikari diets include a beneficial living bacteria named the Hikari germ. This is a strain of Bacillus bacteria which proliferates in the Koi's intestine and brings many benefits. The result is extraordinary digestion, a consistent increased rate of growth, less pollution of the pond water and healthier Koi. The Hikari germ are known as probiotics, the benefits of which are well documented in the human diet (e.g. Yoghurt and Yakult) as well as in livestock breeding and aquaculture.

The Hikari germ process.

The Hikari germ works in four stages. First when a diet containing the Hikari germ is fed, the bacteria breed in the intestine. Secondly the Hikari germ creates increased levels of digestive enzymes, which significantly improve the Koi's ability to digest the food, and thereby utilising more or the beneficial content of the food, and causing less solid waste. Thirdly, because the Hikari germ is probiotic, these friendly bacteria out compete any 'bad bacteria' present for a food source, and their population naturally decreases. Lastly, less waste produced in the digestive process means less pollution in the pond, and therefore better, more consistent water quality. Also the probiotic actions of the Hikari germ continue to be of benefit, even when expelled by the Koi and continue to help break down waste products and organic sludge in the pond.

The Four Formulae

Saki Hikari is available as a Basic diet, a Colour diet, a Growth diet and a Multi season diet. All the diets contain the Hikari germ, wheat germ inner kernel, Spirulina and many important vitamins. Automated fish feeders  have been in use now for some time and have always proved useful where koi owners are on holiday or even just at work, then an Automatic Feeder is a must to ensure that your koi are fed little and often - i.e. the correct way, rather than feeding more heavily once or twice per day. This will substantially reduce waste produced by uneaten and poorly digested food. This in turn aids filter performance and helps keep water in a better condition. In addition your Koi will grow better and overall you will use less food. 

The Aqua forte fish feeder can be programmed to feed up to five times per day.  It can hold up to 6 litres of Koi food with a pellet size of between 2mm and 10mm.  It  can feed up to 1.5kgs of food per day and can place the food in the pond at different places as it flicks, rather than drops the food into the pond.  This enables the unit to place food at distances from 1.5 metres to 4 metres from the edge of the pond. However the unit will NOT spread food everywhere as it has a directional hopper to ensure the food ends up where you want it.  Again fantastic value for money.

The FOK Auto Feeder represents the very best of automatic feeders and have been in use around the world for over 20 years, always providing optimum results and added benefits for any Koi pond. The feeder is fabricated from ABS plastics and is manufactured to run on 110 volts.  A transformer for 240 volts is supplied . The great thing about this feeder is that all service parts are available, from the motor, spare flicker blades and the timer/programmer.

The remote programmable/timer will permit many possible different feeding schedules. It also features automatic, on and off modes  without loss of timed feeds. The clock features Summer/Winter time adjustment, and 12 (am/pm) or 24 hour modes. The unit can administer up to 10 feeds per day with actual feeding times set from 1 minute upwards.

NT Labs Pure high-grade ultra fine powdered Montmorillonite Clay contains many naturally occurring minerals and in our Koi ponds provides many trace elements that Koi need and which is abundant in natural mud ponds.  Helps to remove solid waste from the water, improves skin quality, appetite and Koi health.  Can be added to food as well as to the pond water for maximum advantage and aids digestion when used directly with food.

Izeki Super clean C is a special mineral that has been developed to specifically improve water conditions.  Its primary purpose is to prevent the formation of organic matter in the pond. A build up of organic matter reduces oxygen levels, and super clean C is designed to prevent this and keep oxygen levels high. It helps to reduce the levels of suspended solids by flocculating tiny particles of organic matter. It will also absorb calcium ions, so will help to reduce water hardness which in turn will improve the skin quality of Koi. The dosage varies with water hardness, but because Super clean C is a mineral, it cannot be overdosed

Dose 5 gms  1000 gallons per day in soft water. 
Dose 10 gms  1000 gallons per day in medium hard water. 
Dose 15 gms  1000 gallons per day in very hard water. 

   Superclean C

Izeki magic powder is a mineral additive which is designed to be used with super clean C (above) and is designed specifically to improve white skin on Koi, increase their appetite, lower water hardness and improve a Kois resistance to disease. How does it achieve this? - Technically, magic powder aids the synthesis of proteins, improving food assimilation and it absorbs calcium ions. It also emits infrared light at a particular wavelength that helps create smaller water molecules - a condition known as 'water activation'. As a result water is able to hold more oxygen.

Cloverleaf blanket weed answer is the sure and safe way to rid your pond of blanket weed.  Not a chemical, but a unique blend of minerals and enzymes that creates an environment unsuitable for blanket weed.  Guaranteed to work every time. EA Stop blanket weed

EA weed inhibitor marketed by Evolution Aqua is another safe way to rid your pond of blanket weed.  A treatment that affects  calcium structure which blanket weed relies on to thrive, it also inhibits the spread of the spores.  We were very impressed with the results of this new product. It works fast, and does not leave an unsightly mess of dead or decaying weed - its almost as though the dreaded weed just disappears without a trace.  Does not contain copper and is completely safe for all aquatic life including pond plants.  Recommended treatments monthly during the summer.

Dose 50gm per 1500 litres ( 330 gallons) of pond water. 1kg is sufficient for a single treatment of 6800 gallons of pond water (or for 3 month course for a 2200 gallon pond)
